Heritage Festival 5K/10K

8:30 a.m. Whitesburg River Park (located beside Whitesburg ARH)

Applications can be picked up at Pine Mountain Outfitters and the Mountain Eagle office or online at: http://runsignup .com.../White.../MountainHeritageFestival5K10K 


REGISTER BY $20 for 5K      $25 for 10K

REGISTER   $25 for 5K     $30 for 10K

THOSE WHO PRE-REGISTER WILL BE GUARANTEED A T-SHIRT ON RACE DAY

AWARDS WILL BE GIVEN TO 1ST, 2ND, AND 3RD PLACE WINNERS.

GLOW ON THE POND

Night kayak parade

Cost is $10 per kayak/canoe/ decorate and light up your kayak/canoe

Free event for spectactors, bring your own chairs or blankets

You MUST provide your own kayak or canoe, paddle, and life jacket and a bright white light

Ages 13 and above

Registration begins at 6:30 pm

kayaks go in the water at dusk!

$5.00 donation for opportunity to win a kayak!

Mountain Heritage Photo Contest and Photo Display
* Amateur and Professional
* Black & White and Colored photos
Photos must be turned in at the Dawahares Building on Main Street September 14th and September 15th between the hours of 4-6 PM. Deadline for entry is Thursday September 15th @ 6PM
Photographs will be on display in Whitesburg at the Dawahares Building throughout the week of the festival, September 19-24. All photographs will be judged by Friday September 16, 2016.

Adopt-A-Duck Race
Adopt Your Duck Race Will Be Held Saturday, September 23, 2017 5pm on River bank

Ducks are adoptable at the HOMES,Inc.office, 65 Bentley Ave. Whitesburg, KY 8am-4pm through Wednesday September 220, 2017. Beginning Thursday September 21,2017 ducks are adoptable at the HOMES, Inc. booth under the big tent. Ducks can be adopted up to one hour prior to the race.  Ducks are being adopted to ensure that the area’s citizens are provided with quality, affordable housing solutions.

MOUNTAIN HERITAGE FESTIVAL QUILT CONTEST


Open to any Letcher County Resident. Must be entered at the County Extension Office at 478 Extension Drive , Whitesburg on Monday September 18, 2017 between 8:00 am and 4:00 pm. There is no entry fee. Competent out of county judges will judge the quilts. Judges' decision will be final . 


CATEGORIES FOR THE CONTEST WILL BE:

1) Appliqué 

2) Embroidery 

3) Pieced (patchwork )

4) Baby quilts

5) Misscellaneous

6) Oldest quilt (age verified by owner) 

7) Wall-hanging

Falconer Mitch Whitaker will be highlighting native birds from our area to include Hawks and Owls. This will be a great opportunity to see up close and personal Birds of Pry from our area.

Shirley Sexton and Grayson Holbrook will be hosting a cooking contest for children age 10 only.

There will be 5 contestants and the first  5 children that call and complete the application will be entered in the contest. All the cooking supplies will be Furnished.

Civil War Soldiers of the Ben E. Camp #1629 will fire their cannon to start the largest parade in Eastern Kentucky

The Mountain Heritage Festival Committee would like to express our sincere appreciation to Whitesburg Mayor Craft, city council, city employees, fire, police, sanitation, water and street departments. We also extend our sincere appreciation to Letcher County Judge Executive Jim Ward and Magistrates, Letcher County Sheriff's Department, Letcher County Jailer Don McCall and Luther Tackett as well as the Kentucky State Police. Without their involvement , this festival would not be the success that it is.
