Heritage Festival 5K/10K

8:30 a.m. Whitesburg City parking lot beside the Veteran's Museum

Applications can be picked up at Pine Mountain Outfitters or online at: http://runsignup.com/Race/Ky/Whiteburg/MountainHeritageFestival5K10K 


REGISTER BY August 31-$20 for 5K      $25 for 10K

REGISTER  after August 31- $25 for 5K     $30 for 10K

The first 50 runners who register will be guaranteed a t-shirt(sizes will not be guaranteed and will be given based on registration date)

AWARDS WILL BE GIVEN TO 1ST, 2ND, AND 3RD PLACE WINNERS.

GLOW ON THE POND

Night kayak parade

Cost is $10 per kayak/canoe/ decorate and light up your kayak/canoe

Free event for spectactors, bring your own chairs or blankets

You MUST provide your own kayak or canoe, paddle, and life jacket and a bright white light

Ages 13 and above

Registration begins at 6:30 pm

kayaks go in the water at dusk!

$5.00 donation for opportunity to win a kayak!

All contestants must be residents of Letcher County.

Mountain Heritage Photo Contest and Photo Display
* Amateur and Professional
* Black & White and Colored photos
Photos must be turned on September 13th and September 14th between the hours of 4-6 PM. Deadline for entry is Thursday September 14th @ 6PM
Photographs will be on display in Whitesburg at the Dawahares Building throughout the week of the festival, September 15-25. The photographs will be judged by Friday September 14, 2017.

Adopt-A-Duck Race
Adopt Your Duck Race Will Be Held Saturday, September 23, 2017 5pm on the river bank.

Ducks are adoptable at the HOMES,Inc office, 65 Bentley Ave. Whitesburg, KY 8am-4pm through Wednesday September 21, 2017. Beginning Thursday September 22, 2017 ducks are adoptable at the HOMES, Inc. booth under the big tent. Ducks can be adopted up to one hour prior to the race.  Ducks are being adopted to ensure that the area’s citizens are provided with quality, affordable housing solutions.

 

Prizes
1st Place $500 Cash Prize + a T-shirt
2nd Place $250 Cash Prize + a T-shirt
3rd Place $125 Cash Prize + a T-shirt
4th - 10th Place wins a T-shirt
"Unlucky" duck, last duck to cross the finish line wins $125 Cash Prize + a T-shirt

 

The Adopt-A-Duck race will be held Saturday September 23 at 5:00 pm.

Any Letcher County resident can enter the contest.

This is an oportunity for you to enter your handiwork, food goodies, etc.
Enter your exhibit September 19th between 8:00 and 4:30.
These contests Include:

Baking, Canning, Candy, Quilts, Baskets, Needlework, Woodcraft, Holiday Decorations, and Scrapbooking.

Winners will be on display at the Harry M. Caudill Memorial Library.

Digitization Days at the former Dawahare's Store
All Day
the public is invited to bring archival family photos, letters and heirlooms to the old Dawahares building downtown for FREE preservation scanning or photographing. We will also accept home movies and home videos for later digitization. Please come share the stories behind your family colletcions. Original items will be returned with a USB storage drive. With owner's permission, there is an opportunity for items to be shared on a local history webpage.

Civil War Soldiers of the Ben E. Camp #1629 will fire their cannon to start the largest parade in Eastern Kentucky

No sirens or air horns allowed.

The Mountain Heritage Festival Committee would like to express our sincere appreciation to Whitesburg Mayor Craft, city council, city employees, fire, police, sanitation, water and street departments. We also extend our sincere appreciation to Letcher County Judge Executive Jim Ward and Magistrates, Letcher County Sheriff's Department, Letcher County Jailer Don McCall and Luther Tackett as well as the Kentucky State Police. Without their involvement , this festival would not be the success that it is.
